UK-founded information governance provider LegalRM has hired Peter Lamb as Canadian business development manager, as the company continues to experience significant global growth and demand for its iCompli platform.

Just before and just after the turn of the century, Lamb was IT director of two of Canada’s largest law firms – Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt and Torys. More recently he was a senior account executive at Zero Systems/Hercules AI and before that RBRO Solutions.

Throughout his career, Lamb has led large-scale change management initiatives and has been an active contributor to the legal technology community, including serving on ILTA’s board of directors and as conference co-chair.

In his new role, Peter will work closely with Kandace Donovan, vice president of operations for North America, to drive LegalRM’s expansion in Canada.

Speaking to Legal IT Insider, LegalRM’s founder and CEO Chris Giles said that LegalRM has signed five of the top 10 US law firms as clients in the past 12 months, explaining: “As law firms have moved their DMS to the cloud, we’re helping them to reduce their charges, because they are being hit with charges they didn’t have while on premises for documents they can delete.

“From a cybersecurity perspective, they want to reduce the surface for attack. When it comes to privacy legislation, in Canada firms are having to address PIPEDA [the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act]. We’re also seeing that clients are auditing their supply chain, including law firms, to check that they have the necessary policies, processes and systems in place.”

He added: “Raymond Blijd pointed out that we are the pick and shovel of legal tech: we help to reduce data down so that it is qualitative not quantitative. Firms previously thought they need to keep all of their data but now what they are realising is that they need quality data.”

LegalRM will need to ensure that it scales quickly in order to keep up with the rate of newly-signed large law firms. We understand that further hires are in the pipeline.
