Leading UK law firm Farrer & Co has appointed Rod Fripp from Capsticks as its new IT director and Oliver Jeffcott from Macfarlanes as its head of innovation and AI, effective today (1 December 2025).
Fripp spent just over eight years as IT Director at Capsticks, responsible for shaping its overall IT operation and direction. Prior to Capsticks he was chief technology officer of Gowling WLG, joining the firm from Lawrence Graham through merger.
Jeffcott joins Farrer & Co from Macfarlanes. He qualified as a solicitor in 2008, but in 2018 moved into technology, including holding the role of legal technology solutions analyst at Allen & Overy in 2021 and joining Macfarlanes in 2021 as legal technology and innovation manager.
A spokesperson for Farrer & Co told Legal IT Insider that Andy Beech, former IT director of Farrer & Co and a partner at the firm, remains with the firm, although it is not clear at the time of writing what his new role is.
Fripp said: “The firm’s forward-looking approach to technology and its ambition to use IT as a driver of change and of improved client services are impressive, and I look forward to building on the strong foundations already in place.”
Farrer & Co is famous for its Elite clients, including the royal family, and large corporates such as News International. It has long had a cloud-first strategy and selected NetDocuments in 2014. Last year it selected Peppermint Technology (now part of Clio) to replace LexisNexis Interaction and has been investing heavily in its Microsoft stack. This year the firm was recognised by NetDocuments as the Inspire Award EMEA winner for its commitment to innovation.
Jeffcott added: “Farrer & Co has a long-standing reputation for embracing change and placing innovation at the heart of its strategy. I look forward to working closely with our KL&D, IT and legal teams to help drive forward our AI initiatives and ensure we remain at the forefront of legal innovation.”
