Legal IT Insider’s editor Caroline Hill spoke with Paul Greenwood, chief technology officer at Clifford Chance, about a year that he describes as one of the most interesting ever in technology.
One of the big milestones of the year was adoption, which Greenwood says “increased like never before.” Clifford Chance was one of the first to roll out Microsoft Copilot globally and in 2024 it launched a private GenAI tool, Clifford Chance Assist, built on Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI platform. Adoption before 2025 was at around two thirds of the firm but it now sits at 90%. “Pretty much everyone now uses AI and that’s been a big change,” Greenwood says.
We examined the three-prong approach to adoption that Clifford Chance has taken and also the future legal tech roadmap for law firms. “It’s whether established vendors can show progress quickly enough given their core legacy product versus new AI-enabled startups,” Greenwood says.
